Melbourne residents Doug and Claire Owens are investing in their future in more ways than one. They recently secured an off-the-plan property at the $170 million Vue Terrace Homes in Robina on the Gold Coast.

Mr Owens, a finance broker, said while he had owned several investment properties in Melbourne, sky high prices led him to look north for a location that ticked all the boxes.  He also liked that the Gold Coast is a place he and Claire could retire to.

He said Robina, located at the geographical heart of the Gold Coast, caught his eye as it is underpinned by key investment fundamentals.  It is home to good quality schools, hospitals, destination shopping, transport and high-growth employment, as well as being close to beaches.

The Owens are among the first purchasers who have now settled in Vue Terrace Homes, following the completion of the first stage in March.

Residents now moving in will enjoy a resort-style pool and recreation deck overlooking the 17 hectare Robina City Parklands, which is due for a multi-million transformation into Gold Coast’s ‘Central Park’.

Mr Owens said he weighed up several options before purchasing at Vue Terrace Homes.

“I looked at investing in Melbourne again but the price for properties was too prohibitive and the return on investment just wasn’t there,” he said.

“I looked at Tassie, but felt it was starting to get too expensive, and the Gold Coast has always been somewhere I would like to retire, so it made sense to consider a property suitable as an investment now and a place to live in the future.

“I often advise clients to look at brand new properties as investments due to the tax advantage and ease of renting. As everyone likes something new, this option was high on my priority list.

“Initially, I looked at high rises but was not keen on the high body corporate costs, so when I came across Vue Terrace Homes it really ticked all the boxes.”

Mr Owens said he and Claire, who have two sons aged 18 and 21, saw South-East Queensland as an ideal place to invest right now.

“I have had investments over the years in different locations, but I see a lot of value in the Queensland market at the moment as it hasn’t yet experienced the massive price rises seen in Melbourne and Sydney,” he said.

“While those markets are overheating, South East Queensland has not experienced those big spikes and has, therefore, remained relatively stable with room for growth. In my view, people are starting to see the potential there.

“When I came across Vue, the more I looked at it, the more appeal it had – I just couldn’t see any negatives as an investment proposition, with major retail, hospitals, the city’s best schools and public transport so close by, it is a place you will always be able to rent.

“Every time I see it I get excited.”

Vue Terrace Homes is being developed by Robina’s master developer, Robina Group.  The fourth and final stage of 65 dual-level homes – including perimeter homes with sweeping parkland views – is now selling off-the-plan, after more than $105 million in sales in the community.

The architecturally-designed homes all feature three bedrooms, plus a media room, along with high quality modern fittings and finishes, in a secure gated estate.
