First home buyers step onto the Gold Coast property ladder in style
Matt Buchanan and Cory Winter have been ‘peas in a pod’ since they were seven years old, so teaming up to step into the property market seemed like a logical step.
The pair, who are both now 30, have just settled their first home purchase in the new Vue Terrace Homes community in Robina and said buying together allowed them to secure a home in a location they wanted to live with strong future potential.
The friends moved into the three bedroom, plus multi-purpose room, terrace home, along with Matt’s partner and younger sister.
“Both Cory and I planned to buy our own properties, and I was looking at northern Gold Coast suburbs like Coomera and Pimpama, but I wanted a more central location like Robina,” said Matt, who is operations manager for a real estate company.
“Cory found he was in a similar situation, so we decided to buy together so we could secure the property we really wanted in Vue Terrace Homes.
“Location-wise it is a fantastic place to live and invest in, being just a stone’s throw from Robina Town Centre, two hospitals, a train station, the new Robina Parklands and just down the road from Bond University or up the highway to Griffith University.
“Secondly, it is beautiful – very easy on the eye. We believe as time moves on and the population of the Gold Coast continues to grow, the Vue style of living will only become more popular, particularly in such an appealing central location like Robina.”
Matt said he and Cory had previously lived together in Robina
“We both have really fond memories of living in Robina and felt confident purchasing together because we have spent a long time residing together already. When we discovered Vue, we both felt it was the perfect first step onto the property ladder,” he said.
Cory said buying with a friend not only increased his purchasing potential, but gave him a sounding board for making important decisions.
“I’m a landscaper by trade, so having someone I’ve known for decades who has more knowledge on the intricacies of buying a house and what we need to know really does help,” said Cory.
“Vue is in a great location, with significant investment going on in the area and, of course, if its desirable for investment, it is also a desirable place to live – they go hand in hand.”
Vue Terrace Homes, which was recently completed by Robina Group alongside the new 22 hectare Robina City Parklands, has already posted more than $140 million in sales.
Robina Group development manager Darrell Irwin said first home buyers had been active, alongside upgraders and investors, with a number looking to purchase with friends or family.
“We are definitely seeing more people coming into the sales centre who are looking to co-purchase a property in order to get into the home they want, in the right location,” he said.
“We’ve run the numbers and found that due to the very low interest rate environment, it is now cheaper to buy in Vue than it is to rent.
“Robina is desirable due to its position at the geographic centre of the Gold Coast, close to major public transport, hospitals, schools, universities and shops – everything is right here.
“There is also the extensive new parklands being developed by Gold Coast City Council at the doorstep of Vue, which will become the city’s central park.
“All these factors make it an appealing place to live, but also add up for those looking for a strong investment for the longer term.
“As such, we’re seeing more people like Matt and Cory who want to live here now to enjoy all these great amenities, before considering the property an investment to benefit from the continued growth of the area.”
Mr Irwin said the design of Vue Terrace Homes ticks the boxes for owner occupiers, with all homes featuring three bedrooms plus a multi-purpose room and two car spaces.
“The homes are the ideal blend of generous living spaces, 2.5 bathrooms, dedicated study and media space, clever storage, a spacious and secure courtyard, high-speed internet connectivity and access to a resort-style pool and recreation deck,” he said.
